Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 1/2 oz (3 tbsp) whisky or bourbon
  • 1 tbsp honey, or to taste
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 strip lemon peel
  • 2 or 3 whole cloves (optional)

Steps

  1. Bring the water to a simmer with the cinnamon stick and cloves, then pour it into a heatproof glass mug.
  2. Stir in the honey until dissolved, then the lemon juice and whisky.
  3. Twist the lemon peel over the drink, hang it on the rim, and serve hot.

TipFor a non-alcoholic version, use strong black or rooibos tea in place of the whisky.
