Ingredients

  • 12 oz fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp finely grated orange zest
  • 1 small cinnamon stick (optional)
  • pinch of salt

Steps

  1. Combine everything in a medium saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Cook, stirring now and then, until most of the berries have popped and the sauce looks glossy, 10 to 12 minutes.
  3. Mash a few berries against the side of the pan if you want it thicker.
  4. Remove the cinnamon stick and let cool. The sauce sets more as it chills.

TipMake it up to a week ahead and keep it covered in the fridge.
